Pumpkin Rose Steam Bun

Pumpkin Rose Steam Buns

Sharping the pumpkin rose is slightly different from the purple sweet potatoes as posted few weeks ago at my blog.  Which the no’s 6 piece of dough, I rolled it to oblong then put on top at the edge of the 1st piece dough and roll all the way to the top. I adapted this recipe from the nasi lemak lover.

Level                : Intermediate
Label               : Steam Bun
Makes              : 10-12 buns

Ingredients
100 g mashed pumpkin
Dry Ingredients (A)
200 g pau flour/superfine flour/cake flour/low gluten flour
1/2 tsp. instant yeast
30g caster sugar
(B)
50 g fresh milk/unsweetened soy milk/nut milk
(C)
20 g corn oil

Method
1.       Add all ingredients (A) in a mixing bowl and mixed till well combined.  Start to knead at speed 2 with added milk bit by bit till almost become a dough. Now add oil and continue kneading till become a smooth dough.

2.       Remove dough from the bowl. Shape into a ball and let it rest for an hour or till double the size, cover with a damp cloth.

3.       After proofing, punch down the dough and knead into oblong.  Weight the dough to 15g each and roll into a ball. To make 1 rose, we need 6 pieces of dough. Roll out 5 dough into round circle shape and the 6th circle dough you roll to a short log where the two ends is smaller.

4.       Placed the 5 rolled dough overlapping each other (as picture in purple sweet potatoes). Then place a chopstick in the middle and press down lightly over the layered circles dough, this is to secure in place. Put the log shaped piece of dough at the end of the circle dough.

5.       Roll up the pieces by holding at the middle of dough, and then halve the dough using the chopstick by moving up & down. Eventually the dough will cut into half.

6.       Place the rose shape dough with the bottom on a paper. Repeat the same steps for the rest of the dough. (refer to picture in purple sweet potatoes).

7.       Rest the rose shaped dough in the steamer and proof for another 20-30 minutes or till double the size.

8.       Bring water to boil in steamer at high heat. Steam the rose buns for 20 minutes till 25 minutes. Off the heat and let it rest in the steamer for at least 10 minutes before removing the steamer cover. Enjoy!
