Candies Apples




12 – 16 apples (depends on the size)




Ingredients


2 cups water


1 sticks of cinnamon and 2 star clove


4 cups sugar (normal sugar)


2 cups light corn syrup


½ - 1 tbsp. cinnamon powder or according to your taste


A few drop red food coloring


Chopped toasted nuts (walnut, hazelnuts and almond nuts)


12 red apples (small and very red in color) must be crisp apples (wash and dry)


12 satay stick or Popsicle sticks


 


Method


  1. Pour water, cinnamon stick, star clove, sugar and corn syrup into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Continue to boil on medium flame until the mixture reaches 290C using a thermometer to test. This will takes about 15-20 minutes.
  2. Spoon about 2 tbsp. of the boiling mixture into a bowl and mix in the cinnamon powder till smooth without any lumps before pouring back into syrup mixture.


  1. Add in the food coloring and mixed well.


  1. Pour the hot syrup into a larger bowl set over a larger pot of simmer with hot water. (Makes easier to work with as you coat the apples)
  2. Pierce the top of the apple with stick, then dip into the syrup and roll until fully coated.
  3. Now coat the apple with the nuts and rest on a grease paper or a lined baking sheet until they harden.


 


 


Tips:     You can coat the apple with chocolate too.
